SAN DIEGO TRIP

Wed, April 10, 2013
Left home just after 4:00 pm, travelled to Dillon, MT. Spent the night

Thurs, April 11, 2013
On our way by 8:00. Stopped at Cove Fort and watched a video. Continued on to St. George . Walked around the temple that evening. Fairly warm

Fri, April 12, 2013
Headed on towards Vegas. We stopped at an information stop about the Mojave Desert.

We ate lunch at Sue's 50's Diner.

Arrived at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown San Diego about 3:30 with the help of the GPS. ( It used to be a bank building built early in the 20th century, very ornate.

Strolled down to the Convention Centre for Pete to register

then on through Seaport Village and along the harbour.

We listened to a jazz band in the square and bought a decoration to hang in our yard. On the way back to the hotel, the Convention Centre was closed so we had to take the stair root, about 100 steps. Had supper at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Had ice cream at Ghirardelli's. Cloudy

Sat, April 13, 2013
Pete went to his conference. I lazed a bit and then walked over to Horton Mall. We took the transit to Old Town where we saw the sites.

We visited the Mormon Battalion Visitors Centre and ate supper at a Mexican restaurant, the PiƱata . Cloudy but warm.

Sun, April 14, 2013
I hung around the hotel while Pete went to the conference. We took the transit to Balboa Park. Very nice area - rose gardens,

old, interesting buildings and architecture.

There were all kinds of museums here, and a model train exhibition that was huge.

We saw the Spreckle theatre where they have outdoor concerts. The buildings here were built for the 1935 World Exhibition and there was a little hut for each country. Returned to the hotel area and had fish and chips for supper. We wandered around the mall and found a grocery store to purchase some breakfast food.  Went to Ghirardelli's for ice cream.  We were becoming regulars here. Kind of misty and rainy today.

I spent a bunch of money while Pete was at conference. We took the trolley to the USS Midway Museum.

It was very interesting. After we got back to the hotel our concierge made us a dinner reservation at Croce's where we had filet mignon. It was probably the best filet We have ever eaten. After we returned to the hotel we wandered around it and took pictures. It used to be a bank and the old vault and safety deposit boxes are still there.

It has beautiful marble everywhere. Warm but not really sunny.

Tues, April 16, 2013
Left San Diego and headed to Ken and Linda's. Stopped to walk around the San Diego Temple on the way.

Arrived in Orange about 10:30. Ken and Linda weren't home so we drove to Downtown Disney and wandered around.

Talked Dad into buying some shoes. Back to Church's. visited with Linda until Ken came home. Went to Chinese food for supper. Visited with them. Warm and Sunny.

Wed, April 17, 2013
Ken spent the day with us showing us around the area. Linda had to work. We went to the harbour. Walked on Newport pier and watched the surfers and saw a sea lion and the fishermen.

Walked on the beach. Rode an electric boat around the bay and saw lots of beautiful homes and boats.

Had lunch in the Newport Beach area. Drove around the Fashion Island Mall area and shopped a little at the Spectrum Mall. Went back to the house and met Linda. Went to supper at the outside food court where we ate last time we were at their place. Stopped at Broadway Shoes, a huge shoe outlet where I spent too much money again. Visited.  Nice weather, a bit windy on the beach.

Thurs, April 18, 2013
Left Ken and Linda's hoping to take the 101 up the coast but missed it so went up the freeway to San Francisco. Arrived at Fisherman's Wharf about 4:30. Strolled around there and then headed to the Golden Gate Bridge where we took pictures.

Followed the GPS through San Francisco up and down the streets

and travelled to Fairfield where we stopped for the night at our trip's "Bates" motel. The wi-fi cost so we lived without for the night. Very chilly on the wharf and at the bridge.

Fri, April 19, 2013
Dad walked to a Raley's grocery store to get some breakfast and asked some guys he met what was Fairfield's claim to fame.

They told him Jelly Bellys. Dad didn't know what Jelly Bellies were. We looked up the address in the phone book and took our trusty GPS to 1 Jelly Belly Lane.  We were there by 8:45 and couldn't believe how many people showed up by 9:00. by the time we finished our very interesting tour one hour later, the place was packed. It was really interesting and amazing how many visitors were there. Of course we had to purchase some "Belly Flops".

We spent a long day driving and ended up in Twin Falls about 10:30.  We actually had forgotten about the time change so it was an hour later than we were thinking. We found a hotel and had some supper.

Sat, April 20, 2013
Continued up Highway 93 and stopped at Craters of the Moon Park. Decided we should see what was there as we would probably never be that way again so drove around the Craters park.

Worked our way up through Idaho to join the I-15 and arrived home about 9:15.

Had a great time and saw lots of interesting things. Always fun to see different parts of the country.
